Booklist Review

Veteran cop Larry Cole has faced trouble and danger before, but none of his previous adversaries has been quite so daunting as Jonathan Gault. The mad scientist has already made millions providing some very special antitheft services to Chicago's rich and famous; his method of prevention generally involves gleefully electrocuting anyone who tries to steal from his clients. When the bodies begin to mount, Chief of Detectives Larry Cole and reporter Kate Ford are compelled to investigate the bizarre case. Former cop Holton has concoted an action-packed adventure tailor-made for the acting skills of Schwarzenegger or Willis. The plot twists--which include poisonous snakes, bent politicians, ray guns, black magic, a Native American medicine man, and the destruction of Chicago's Natural History Museum--are imaginative, disturbing, and startling. Readers looking for a good escapist fantasy--albeit one that's offbeat, weird, and wacky--won't find a better one than Holton's latest. --Emily Melton
