The first copies (including RBR Copy 2) contain an illustration, p. 441, showing Mark Twain in flames, which was omitted, at the request of Mrs. Clemens, in further printings of same t.-p. date. cf. Merle Johnson, A bibliography of the work of Mark Twain, 1910, p. 57. In the present issue (Copy 1) the illustration is omitted.

RBR Copy 2 : In brown cloth stamped in black and gilt, with giltstamped illustrations on front cover and spine. Front bound endpaper bears handstamp of "Adrian C. Brown, Bookseller" and tipped-in note by the same, "If this 'Life on Miss' is, as I think a first issue & one of only 250 first printed it is worth quite a bit, perhaps $100 or more. A.C.B."
