In reply to a letter from William Jackson Leonard published in the Boston Herald of July 11 in which he states: ... The first free public library in the United States, still in existence, was established in Dublin, N. H., in 1822... The second free public library in the United States was founded in Peterborough, near Dublin, in 1833.
