Gr 5-7-- In this fourth adventure, Desdemona and her family are days away from eviction from their run-down house in a Southwestern suburb--and just before Christmas, too. Her father is spending every spare moment reading the real estate ads, but is not having much luck in finding a place that will take three children and three dogs. Opportunity does knock, however, and they plan a move to a house--complete with a swimming pool. A party turns into a frenetic event, complete with the Chinese Olympic swim team that practices daily in the pool. Desdemona's inquisitive twin siblings and several dogs on the loose provide the impetus for a very damp housewarming for everyone there. The story's fast pace and credible characters create undemanding, light reading. While some situations seem contrived, the plot flows smoothly and the mood of madcap mayhem continues throughout. Predictably, everything ends on an upbeat note. The sentence structure makes this a good choice for older reluctant readers. What more can happen to Desdemona and her wacky, mixed-up world? Look between the covers of this action-filled book. --Mary Lou Budd, Milford South Elementary School, OH (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
