Booklist Review

There is something refreshingly open, even democratic, about our fascination with every facet of the presidency. What the first family says and does and how they eat and entertain are subjects national magazines and tabloids devour. Here, an esoteric topic--White House glassware--is given fascinating treatment by the curator of American glass at the Corning Museum. What could have been a specialized tome sparkles with interesting information. Barbara Bush's eloquent introduction, the author's wit and enthusiasm, the excellent photographs and other illustrations, all serve to attract the reader. Includes inventories (1869 and 1876), names of known glass company suppliers, and notes. No index. ~--Barbara Jacobs
