Booklist Review

The 75 perennials featured in this book have all been cultivated since before the beginning of the twentieth century, including such favorites as lilies, trumpet vine, clematis, holly, lavender, and columbine. Their designation as antique reflects at least 100 years of cultivation, although many are much older. The text details each plant's history and gives advice on planting, pruning, and design. Stunning color photographs by Rob Gray accompany the text--photos taken in some of the world's most stately gardens. In addition to a portfolio of the 75 antique perennials, there are historical chapters on flowers and perennial gardening styles. Bibliography; index. ~--George Cohen
