Summary

Summary

This book is about librarians becoming full citizens of their academic institutions. Until recently, most of the professional literature about academic librarians has dealt with day-to-day work issues and is usually quite job-specific, concentrating on the librarian in the library. But this book's twenty contributors emphasize the librarian in the university. The first section centers on university governance and the contributions librarians can make to their institutions' collegial governance. The second section examines the librarian in the classroom. Research, publication, and networking with teaching faculty make up the third section. The fourth section covers the interactions of academic librarians and students outside the library. With a recommended reading list.
