Library Journal Review

Dalton, a leading authority on premenstrual syndrome (PMS), has revised this popular book, first published in 1979 and now in its fourth edition, to include recent medical information on progesterone receptor sites as well as a review of the pros and cons of estrogen replacement therapy. She also removed British references to make the book more accessible to American women. Writing in a scientific but easily readable manner, Dalton provides a wealth of information on the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of PMS and offers help not only for those afflicted but for their loved ones as well. She even discusses PMS as a legal defense. While not as amusing as Martha Williamson's Raging Hor mones; The Unofficial PMS Survival Guide (Doubleday, 1990), this is superior to Ronald Norris and Colleen Sullivan's PMS: Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (Berkley, 1987). Highly recommended for medical and health libraries.-- Janet Coggan, Univ. of Florida Lib., Gainesville (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
