Booklist Review

The American Diabetes Association is well known for its cookbooks, of which this one is typical. Keeping in mind the specific restrictions of people who have diabetes, it proffers festive, "company" recipes that seem anything but restrictive. Each recipe includes a nutritional breakdown of calories, fat, cholesterol, carbohydrates, sodium, potassium, and protein. The book begins with basic information on diabetes and an explanation of the ADA's exchange diet (upon which many other diets, including that of WeightWatchers, are based) and concludes with the diet's six food-group lists. A book useful to anyone--not just diabetics--interested in healthful eating on special occasions. To include glossary and index of recipes. --Mary Ellen Sullivan
