Booklist Review

For a gardener with carpentry, masonry, and electrical skills, this book is a treasure. Each chapter focuses on a landscaping problem or area of the yard. Initial pages offer an overview of turning the yard into one's "own personal environment," which involves such projects as drainage, grading, and erecting posts. Subsequent chapters proffer advice on controlling minor erosion; on building fences, gates, and latticework screens and installing security lighting; and on constructing walks and paths, patios, decks, gazebos, swimming pools, sun rooms, sheds, driveways, irrigation systems, etc. There are 150 photographs of yards and projects, 285 detailed how-to photos, 35 pages of charts, and a number of plant identification photos. ~--George Cohen
