Choice Review

Plomin (Pennsylvania State University and president of the Behavior Genetics Association) provides a brief introduction to behavioral genetics. Other books available in this area, including D.A. Hay, Essentials of Behaviour Genetics, (1985); R. Plomin, J.C. DeFries, and G.E. McClearn Behavorial Genetics: A Primer, (2nd ed., 1990); and the classic, J.L. Fuller and W.R. Thompson, Foundations of Behavior Genetics (1978), are all more lengthy and comprehensive. Since most general genetics books do very little with behavior genetics, this work will give students and others an opportunity to learn the basics of an increasingly important field without referring to long, detailed works. Plomin places heavy emphasis on statistics and methodology and lists useful references at the end of each chapter. Recommended for upper-division undergraduates. -M. Kayhart, Cedar Crest College
