Booklist Review

Their noses and hair don't look alike, but they're brothers all right. For one thing, each has the same water-balloon physique. For another, each is the kinda guy who, when the waitress says, "That'll be five bucks, boys," thinks, "She wants me, I can tell." They're Lance, Al, Rolf, and Lars--the bachelors Fusco, Newark's biggest would-be ladykillers since Attila (the Hun). Occasionally, one of them gets to go on a date, but usually he doesn't make it beyond the whatchadointanite phone call. Y' see, they have problems with self-esteem: they've got too much of it. Well, okay, Lance actually has a steady girlfriend, Gloria, although why she wants to be "soulmates" with a man who deliberately thinks what she said is "cellmates" is open to question. There's also a dog, Alex (the most attractive, personable fellow in the household), who maintains he's a wolverine but looks like a big rat. A little more than a year old, the comic strip in which they all disport is funnier than casters on crutches. ~--Ray Olson
