Booklist Review

The editors of Prevention have produced what may be the ultimate reference for players of Trivial Pursuit. This curious treasury, illustrated with many graphs, tables, and drawings, is arranged in an alphabet of broad categories from "Accidents" to "Weight Loss." Among the health-impinging things readers will discover are that 70 percent of auto accidents are caused by improper driving techniques and that a blue whale eats up to 5,000 pounds of krill each day, which translates into 1,943,190 McDonald's filet-of-fish sandwiches! Definitely only for the most eclectic health collections. References; to be indexed. ~--Karen Graves

Library Journal Review

Health and well-being comprise a fast-growing publishing category, so it's no surprise that Prevention magazine has joined the field. Long a source of information on alternative medicine, Rodale Press (which publishes Prevention) presents a reference book on topics ranging from aging, AIDS, back problems, and caffeine to headaches, mental illness, pet health, and weight loss. While not mainstream like the American Medical Association Encyclopedia of Medicine ( LJ 6/15/89), this book provides valuable facts and useful tidbits on a great variety of subjects. Recommended for consumer health collections of public libraries and alternative medicine collections of academic libraries.-- Janet M. Coggan, Univ. of Florida Libs., Gainesville (c) Copyright 2010.
