Reviews 1

School Library Journal Review

The contents of this volume are more inclusive than the title suggests, dealing with the history of U. S. immigration as well as the government bureaucracy formed in 1882 to regulate it. The treatment of America's love/hate relationship with its immigrants is well-presented, and Dixon's own biases--if they exist--are not in evidence. About half of the volume deals with the current work and structure of the INS and details the various ways in which immigration laws are enforced. The black-and-white photos complement the text and are informative. A good addition to the series, this will be a useful resource for reports. --Trish Ebbatson, Delaware County District Library, OH (c) Copyright 2010.
