Booklist Review

It's complicated, but putting the brakes on property development in your neighborhood can be done. Robin advocates the "slow-growth movement" and bases her advice on ten years of fighting city hall. Old hands will find this book a good reference, and beginners can use it to learn the process, from talking to politicians to preservation ordinances to what to do after you win (throw a victory party, write thank-you notes, and plan your next move). In other words, Robin maintains it's a war, not a battle. Her book helps with the strategy. Glossary, annotated reading list; to be indexed. --Cynthia Ogorek
