Jones is uniquely qualified to compile a dictionary in the rapidly changing and expanding technical field of cable television and the related areas of computer and satellite data transmission. He is both a pioneer in the cable industry and a poet--one aspect assures technical expertise, the other precision and elegance in definition. Not for those totally unversed in the intricacies of television, this dictionary assumes familiarity with the basics of electronics and requires college-level reading skills. Although the preponderance of headwords are technical, Jones includes political and organizational terms. He also unravels the maze of acronyms and initialisms that have sprung up in the industry. This is a slim, well-bound, beautifully printed volume of approximately 1,900 terms. There are no illustrations, but none are required: the definitions are description enough. For college libraries supporting programs in television technology, telecommunications, and data transmission. D. A. Schmitt St. Louis Community College at Meramec
