Booklist Review

For more than 30 years, the Paris Review has published interviews with the major English-language writers of our time and then collected them in the Writers at Work series. The latest addition to the series, the first devoted to poets, gathers 16 interviews with figures as diverse as T. S. Eliot, Marianne Moore, Allen Ginsberg, William Carlos Williams, and James Dickey. Each interview is prefaced by a page of manuscript or work sheet (complete with the poet's corrections), a photograph or drawing of the poet, and a brief biographical introduction. The interviews are in turn critical, personal, and professional--and always informative. An especially important addition to public libraries serving college students. --Jim Elledge
