Choice Review

The quality and usefulness of any handbook is largely determined by the range of material covered and the ease with which users can find both the materials they need and adequate references, when the material needed is more detailed than normally found in a handbook. Elliott has done a superb job in all respects. The book's 46 chapters are divided into six main sections, covering steam generation, turbines and diesels, fuels and fuel handling, pollution control, plant electric systems, and instrumentation and control. Each chapter is preceded by a table of contents listing the material covered. The end-of-chapter bibliographies and the 20-page index assure the users' ability to locate needed material. The 600 illustrations are well done. Recommended for upper-level undergradute and graduate students in electrical power, mechanical power, or nuclear studies. -G. R.
