Reviews 1

Booklist Review

A survey of costume from the ancients to 1970. A concise text offers historical background and description of fashions particular to certain countries, with costume for men, women, and children broken down into specific decades within a period. "Item/description" explications of individual pieces (gloves, hats, shoes, etc.) are invaluable, as are bibliographies ending chapters listing further sources regarding that period. Although the book concludes coverage at 1970, it remains a wise, generally up-to-date selection for libraries. Includes 16 color photos; index. --Janet Lawrence
