Summary:
"This book collects memories of a time gone by --an era when Mom & Pop farms fueled our local economy and fostered a way of life. A way of life where surival meant entire families, as well as neighborhoods, worked together. In an effort to tell their stories, Holly and Bud Canham interviewed over 100 community farmers (and their families), local historians and librarians. Folks who no longer live nearby also contributed from a distance. We were grateful to collect pieces of local history that spanned over one-hundred years, from 1880 to 1985. For the earliest pioneer stories, the Canhams depended on archival documents published by the original pioneers themselves. Recorded oral histories, both old and recent, remember the hard times, recall the dangerous moments, and describe with great affection the joys of life on the farm. Taken together, their shared experiences bring the reader back to an almost forgotten time in Orleans County history."--Cover.
