School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 4-This disc offers four episodes of the PBS series featuring the Kratt brothers, who have produced many award-winning children's programs about wildlife. Each episode begins with a live-action introduction of the brothers providing animal facts. The banter between the two is full of kid-friendly humor. After discussing the abilities of a particular animal, the brothers declare, "What if!" and assume their cartoon identities. They have a team that assists with each adventure from the Tortuga HQ, where many incredible inventions are created. In the first segment, the brothers find a baby elephant separated from his mom on the savanna. While the brothers search, the baby wreaks havoc in the Tortuga, shrinking the team in the process. The brothers find the elephant mom stuck in mud and use their creature power suits to rescue her and reunite the two. "Bad Hair Day" introduces viewers to lion society. When two male lions try to take over the pride, the brothers transfer the pride's cubs to the Tortuga, where slapstick chaos ensues. "Zigzagged" highlights the way patterns serve animals in the wild when the brothers reunite a baby zebra with the herd and use "confusion camouflage" in the process. In "Let the Rhinos Roll," a stampede leaves a baby rhino separated from the herd and viewers meet the villain, Zach Varmitech, who is kidnapping the animals to create rhino-powered machines to construct parking lots on the Serengeti. Of course, the Team Kratt prevails. VERDICT The Kratts' winning formula of animal facts presented with stories full of humor and animated action will keep viewers entertained while also learning.-Constance Dickerson, Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library, OH © Copyright 2016.
