General Note:
In 1980, the nation was terrorized by a series of racially-motivated killings, possibly by a single racist maniac, in the cities of Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester, New York City, Atlanta, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Johnstown, Pennsylvania and Salt Lake City. Top law enforcement officials across the country, including the FBI, scrambled to connect the dots and stop the killer before the terror escalated. In October 1980, Newsweek magazine ran a story on "The Fears of Black America" that addressed the tension in the black community caused by this seemingly nationwide killing spree. Joey 22 details the murders, investigation and trial of Joseph G. Christopher, the ".22-Caliber Killer." Motivated by a deep, pathological racism, Christopher was responsible for the deaths of eight confirmed victims, and by some accounts - including his own - as many as thirteen. Legendary reporter Matt Gryta covered the kills, the massive investigation, and the justice that was ultimately served in a Buffalo, New York courtroom. --- Back cover
