On Order

Broken into pieces and hidden in the mortal realm long ago, the Staff of Eris bestows vast powers on whoever possesses it. King Brogan, V's treacherous uncle, is trying to rebuild the staff. If he succeeds, the consequences for the Otherworld will be dire. In a desperate effort to keep the Otherworld safe, Noli and V plot the daring theft of a jewel that is needed to complete the staff. But Brogan is not so easily defeated. When he and Noli finally come face to face, the balance of power shifts, and Noli must consider joining forces with an unlikely ally in order to save the Otherworld.

Booklist Review

Noli, who has become more than simply mortal, uses her otherworldly skills to fine effect in rescuing James and Steven's little sister from the dark court, and her nemesis there heroically rescues her father from the space-time crack where he was stuck after the San Francisco Earthquake years earlier. Lazear's storytelling is rich in surprise twists as well as sardonic wit, and she maintains that pace right through a perfectly fitting double wedding of fae, pirates, and folk who have mortal, day-saving attributes as well. The Aether Chronicles give us a fine steampunk ride right through the trilogy's denouement.--Goldsmith, Francisca Copyright 2014 Booklist

School Library Journal Review

Gr 9 Up-Rambunctious teen rebel Noli and best friend-and love interest-V are trying to save humankind and the fey Otherworld from V's evil uncle. As they race to stop him from assembling a powerful staff, Noli installs herself as queen of Otherworld and chaos ensues. Lazear's romance-filled steampunk adventure continues with this rollicking chapter. (c) Copyright 2014. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
