On Order

In a masterpiece of supernatural mystery, New York Times bestselling authors James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell bring The Order of the Sanguines trilogy to its thunderous conclusion in . . . Blood Infernal

As a scourge of murders sweeps the globe, archaeologist Erin Granger must decipher the truth behind a prophecy in the Blood Gospel, a lost tome written by Christ. With the Apocalypse looming, Erin again joins forces with Army sergeant Jordan Stone and Father Rhun Korza to search for the key to mankind's salvation. But the prize has already fallen into the hands of their enemy, a demon before whom even the walls of the Vatican will fall. Erin will discover that the only hope for victory lies in an impossible act--one that will destroy not only her, but all she loves. To protect the world, Erin must walk through the very gates of Hell and face the darkest of enemies: Lucifer himself.

Booklist Review

The third volume in the Order of the Sanguines series finds archaeologist Erin Granger, Army Ranger Jordan Stone, and priest Rhun Korza racing against time to unravel an ancient prophecy before Legion, a demon of almost unimaginable power, unleashes the Apocalypse upon the world. The Order of Sanguines, for those not familiar with the series, is made up of a group of ancient vampires who have turned from evil to good and who now fight the dark forces that want to take over the world. The first two books in the series were solid genre fare, but this one feels like a by-the-numbers effort, too similar in structure to its two predecessors. Rollins is well known for his action-adventure novels, including the Sigma Force series, but the action here is lackluster; even the characters, who have been the series' main strength (coauthor Cantrell is known mostly for the very good Hannah Vogel mystery series), feel thin and uninteresting. It's not a bad book but not an especially good one either; satisfactory for fans of this series, perhaps, but not a book that will garner either author any new readers.--Pitt, David Copyright 2015 Booklist

Publisher's Weekly Review

In bestseller Rollins and Cantrell's imaginative third Sanguines thriller (after 2013's Innocent Blood), the series heroes-the Knight of Christ, Fr. Rhun Korza; the Warrior of Man, Jordan Stone; and the Woman of Learning, Erin Granger-must undertake a final quest to prevent Lucifer from being loosed on the world again. Korza and others like him are Sanguinists, who have accepted Christ and learned to slake their thirst for blood with wine. Strigori, who have not accepted Christ, survive by drinking the blood of their victims. But there are still worse creatures abroad, including the demon Legion, whose appearance may presage Lucifer's escape. An almost endless series of riddles and clues, battles and betrayals, take the assembled trio to the Vatican, Venice, Prague, and elsewhere. The heroes survive gruesome wounds and grueling tests before a climactic battle and a surprise ending. Agent: (for Rollins) Russ Galen and Danny Baror; (for Cantrell) Mary Alice Kier and Anna Cottle.
