"As a child, Bailey Browne dreamed of a knight in shining armor swooping in to rescue her and her mother. As she grows older, those dreams transform, becoming ones of a mysterious stranger who will sweep her off her feet and whisk her away from her ordinary existence. Then, suddenly, there he is. Despite the ten year difference in their ages, her working class upbringing and his of privilege, Logan Abbott and Bailey fall deeply in love. Marriage quickly follows. But when Logan brings her home to his horse farm in Louisiana, a magnificent estate on ninety wooded acres, her dreams of happily-ever-after begin to unravel. A tragic family history she knew nothing about surfaces, plus whisperings about the disappearance of his first wife, True, and rumors about the women from the area who have gone missing--and when another woman disappears, all signs point to her husband's involvement. At first Bailey ignores the whispers, even circumstantial evidence against Logan mounts. But finally, Bailey must make a choice: believe what everyone says--or bet her life on the man she loves, but is realizing she hardly knows. From the author of Justice for Sara, Erica Spindler's The First Wife is a thrilling new novel that will have you gasping on every page"--

Publisher's Weekly Review

In this heated romantic thriller from Spindler (Justice for Sara), Bailey Browne knows virtually nothing about Logan Abbott, the man whose marriage proposal she accepts 10 days after they meet on a Grand Cayman beach. Back at Logan's horse farm in Wholesome, La., the members of his household see an uncanny resemblance between Bailey and Logan's first wife, True, whom he claims left him suddenly. Others, notably the obsessed police chief Billy Ray Williams, believe Logan killed True, along with several other young women who have disappeared. Strong personalities make for some wonderfully tense revelations, and whether Bailey should trust her husband or his detractors remains convincingly up in air, but Billy Ray's long vendetta doesn't form a believable excuse for lazy law enforcement. This psychodrama works best for those who like to piece together carefully placed puzzle information. Agent: Scott Miller, Trident Media Group. (Feb.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.

Library Journal Review

Unmoored by the recent death of her mother, Bailey falls passionately in love with enigmatic Logan, whom she meets on vacation. She succumbs to his pressure to marry quickly without even notifying his family or her friends. As soon as she arrives at her new home, Bailey is faced with Logan's irate sister, a condescending horseback riding instructor, a local police chief who holds a venomous grudge against Logan, and a world filled with secrets, half-truths, innuendo, and connections to a string of baffling murders and disappearances. Reader Tavia Gilbert beautifully depicts the confused though often cloyingly sweet and naïve girl who is thrust into a life of mistrust. Verdict Listeners fond of psychological thrillers and murder mysteries will revel in this cast of suspects, trail of clues, twists, and turns. Despite some questionable police procedure depictions and the most closed-mouthed characters ever to live in a small town, this otherwise well-constructed mystery will keep listeners intrigued and engaged.-Lisa Youngblood, Harker Heights P.L., TX © Copyright 2015.
