Summary

Summary

Back in the '90s, when she was signed to Atlantic as a member of the sibling group the Braxtons, Traci Braxton likely had no idea that she'd release her first solo album in 2014. Odds are she didn't see a future in reality television, either, but her roles on Braxton Family Values and Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars increased her profile and effectuated a recording contract. Released through eOne, Crash & Burn offers a decent assortment of adult-oriented R&B songs that explore heartbreak, romance, lust, and perseverance. While most of the songs are undoubtedly contemporary and sleek, not one of them comes off as an attempt to contend with releases from artists half Braxton's age. In fact, the lone guest appearance here comes from Raheem DeVaughn, an ideal collaborator for Braxton. Fans of mature R&B who can forgive considerable Auto-Tune usage should find plenty to like here. ~ Andy Kellman
