Summary

This book is a rare personal record by a Canadian of the last fifteen years of the British mandate in Palestine. Gelber writes about her experiences as a young Jewish woman during the birth of Israel, and without attributing blame, describes worsening tensions among the factions involved.

Booklist Review

Ages 4-8. A companion piece to The Golden Goose [BKL S 15 92], this volume of 21 traditional Mother Goose rhymes, which was first published in 1922, has long been considered a classic. The new edition has brightened Brooke's original watercolor artwork; pen-and-ink drawings also add a spiffy touch. It's clear why this particular Mother Goose endures. The pictures have a charm and vitality that span the years, and the handsome volume will delight a whole new generation of children. ~--Ilene Cooper
