Summary

The world of Minecraft comes to life in this thrilling adventure!

Gameknight999 loved Minecraft, but above all else, he loved to grief—to intentionally ruin the gaming experience for other users.

When one of his father's inventions teleports him into the game, Gameknight is forced to live out a real-life adventure inside a digital world. What will happen if he's killed? Will he respawn? Die in real life? Stuck in the game, Gameknight discovers Minecraft's best-kept secret, something not even the game's programmers realize: the creatures within the game are alive! He will have to stay one step ahead of the sharp claws of zombies and pointed fangs of spiders, but he'll also have to learn to make friends and work as a team if he has any chance of surviving the Minecraft war his arrival has started.

This action-packed tribute to the worldwide computer game phenomenon is a runaway publishing smash and the perfect companion for Minecraft fans of all ages.

Author Notes

Mark Cheverton is the New York Times bestselling author of the Gameknight999 series set in the world of Minecraft. He holds a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in physics, and spent fifteen years in the public school system teaching physics, calculus, physical science and environmental science. He decided that he needed a change, and worked in a high technology startup, researching fiber optic components, and then at an industrial research institution. He has conducted research on numerous projects, large and small, including: machine vision, holography, robotics, manufacturing systems, laser systems and health care components.

Cheverton began writing Invasion of the Overworld, the first book in the Gamenight999 series, to teach his son (a Minecraft fanatic) about cyber-bullying. It was soon followed by Battle for the Nether and Confronting the Dragon. His other series include: The Mystery of Herobrine, Herobrine Reborn, and the Algae Voices of Azule.

Booklist Review

For those insatiable Minecraft fans out there, debut author Cheverton kicks off the Gameknight999 series. Minecraft fanatic Gameknight enjoys hiding away in the basement and playing the popular online building game. At school he is nearly invisible, but online he is always in control, griefing and trolling other players. But when an accident leads one of his dad's inventions to teleport him into the game, Gameknight has a whole new set of challenges. It's one thing to kill cows and slay zombies in the game, but quite another to manage these feats when you're one of the blocky characters, uncertain if you'll ever get back to your own home. Cheverton's book could have benefited from more editing; misspellings and inconsistent grammar distract from the otherwise adventure-filled story. Likewise, Gameknight's journey from stereotypical loner gamer to hero who understands the value of friendship and teamwork is predictable. While there are higher quality Minecraft books out there, there is nevertheless a market for this title.--Barnes, Jennifer Copyright 2015 Booklist
