"This book is the outgrowth of a monograph by the same author published in 1933 under the title Adult abilities in extension classes. That monograph dealt with the mental abilities and the classroom achievement ... in the extension classes of the University of Minnesota ... With the assistance of a Carnegie grant Dr. Sorenson extended the inquiry on the same general lines to six other universities suitably distributed as to geographical area. The results are embodied in the present book."
