Booklist Review

There's some but not much entry overlap in these two college guides. Best Buys zeroes in on colleges that ``offer a solid undergraduate education but don't charge exorbitant fees,'' while the Selective Guide suggests nearly 300 of ``the best and most interesting colleges in the country.'' Each volume includes the expected basic information, providing statistical data (though Best Buys' is more extensive) on enrollment, costs, applicants, academics, type of location, etc., followed by a lively and informative essay that conveys a sense of standards, campus, housing, extracurricular activities, financial aid, and much more. Both are arranged alphabetically by college and are not only indexed state by state but also by price. SE.
