A timely addition to the literature of funding in light of current Western interest in opportunities for study and travel in China. Designed as a starting point for a funding search, the work presents approximately 300 alphabetically arranged program profiles and includes address, description, sample grants, eligibility/limitations, fiscal and application information, and, in some instances, a section titled ``additional information'' that supplies helpful hints to speed up the funding process. Subject index, sponsor-type index, list of sponsoring organizations, and bibliography complete the information. The bibliography gives a list of general printed sources for funding and a description of 14 online databases that provide access to funding and grants sources. The editors also caution grantseekers to confirm all profile contents before making application and to secure permission from the Chinese government for any research, study, or travel. The directory sets a high standard for this type of reference book. Recommended for college and university libraries or any library serving China scholars.-R.E. South, University of Oregon
