Library Journal Review

Gillis gave up substantial parts of her own life for marriage to a man with a six-figure income. The saga of her divorce, a surprise for her but planned over a three-year period by her husband (which gave him a significant financial advantage), points out just how unfair no-fault divorce laws can be. On the premise that ``essentially, divorce is a business deal,'' Gillis offers sound advice from a personal perspective. Her well-written story, which is frank but not bitter, should be required reading for all American women. Lenore Weitzman's The Divorce Revolution: the unexpected social and economic consequences for women and children in America ( LJ 10/1/85) documents the inequities of no-fault divorce from a broader-based and less personal perspective.
