Booklist Review

From the meteorologist who authored the foreboding Greenhouse Effect (Booklist 77:291 O 15 80) comes a much pleasanter weather picture. This practical guide details typical weather for popular tourist sites in North America, from Alaska to the Caribbean. As well as the typical temperatures or likelihood of rain for land travelers, the author mentions such related facts as when cruise planners can expect calm seas or gales. In addition, he emphasizes the importance of travelers' heeding the forecasters and other experts when faced with potential hurricanes or other serious storms; notes on safety precautions for lightning and similar threats are also supplied. Appended are lists of PBS radio stations offering weather broadcasts and stations that carry the government's NOAA Weather Radio. No index but the geographical format, tables, and maps make the book fairly easy to use. DPD. 917.04 North America Description and travel / North America Climate 86-70329
