School Library Journal Review

Gr 4-7-With an eye-catching cover and lively illustrations, this book will guide kids through the joys of decorating their living spaces. An introduction discusses choosing a theme (e.g., "Fun and Funky," "Think Pink," "Sporty Space"), offers advice on picking a color scheme, lists and describes necessary materials (along with the need for adult assistance), and provides sewing tips. This section is followed by easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions for 15 child-friendly crafts, including a bead curtain, a jewelry box, a baseball clock, bead-encrusted drawer knobs, and a pajama keeper. Each activity is presented on a lively spread along with helpful drawings that illustrate each step, a photo of the finished product, and colorful cartoons. The materials are easily obtainable, and additional ideas are occasionally provided. Templates for the projects are appended. Both boys and girls will be attracted to these crafts, either to make for themselves or as gifts.-Augusta R. Malvagno, Queens Borough Public Library, NY (c) Copyright 2010.
