School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 1-A picture book that looks at the noses of six different animals. Each one is introduced in a flat verse (the mole-"Who needs a nose/pink as a flower,/a nose with twenty-two little fingers/that wiggle and squirm when/searching for worms?") and ends with the question, "Who needs that nose?" A detailed drawing of the nose by itself appears opposite the verse and the following spread shows the whole animal. The concept of animal design is brilliantly handled in Steve Jenkins and Robin Page's What Do You Do with a Tail Like This? (Houghton, 2003), so the real question for this title is: who needs it?-Kathleen Whalin, York Public Library, ME (c) Copyright 2010.
