Booklist Review

An excellent self-help guide for those who experience extended periods of depression. If one already knows depression's symptoms and how to combat them, he or she will be better able to cope should depression ever set in. To this end, Preston provides self-evaluation tools, such as a "Depression Checklist," to help determine whether one's usual condition shows signs of mild, moderate, or severe psychological and/or physiological depression, which may then be effectively treated. In addition, the guidance he gives for fighting depression could help anyone beat the blues more quickly and effectively. Finally, since depression is a misunderstood disease that friends and family often blame upon the sufferer rather than the disorder, everyone could benefit from learning about its symptoms, treatments, and how to help loved ones who are depressed. To include bibliography and index. --Richard Mills
