Reviews 1

School Library Journal Review

Gr 2-4-Eight short chapters describe city and country life, the seasons, geography, laws and customs, sights to see, and more. The "Legend of Thor's Lost Hammer" is included as well. Large, color photos depict Sweden's highest point, Kebnekaise; a traditional smorgasbord; the king and queen in ordinary dress, etc.; smaller photos show the flag and paper money. The recipe for Swedish pancakes is sure to delight chefs of all ages. Details of a lively outdoor game, "All the Animals Change Den," and instructions for a "Dala Horse" craft are also included. Keltie Thomas's Sweden: The Culture (Crabtree, 2003) and Bo Kage Carlson's Sweden (Raintree, l999) are for older readers. This title will be a popular addition to most collections.-Augusta R.
