Library Journal Review

The fourth edition of this directory provides contact information for 5000 national and state parks and other recreational and scenic areas of North America. Unlike previous editions, it includes web sites, more descriptive information about parks not only in the United States but also Canada, and a brand new "Special Features" index. Although very brief, the entries provide sufficient details about the parks' acreage, facilities, recreational activities, and contact information. The book opens with a 12-page section featuring color maps of parks, trails, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, and more. The main asset are the four mighty indexes, designed to make this a one-stop reference source on the subject. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Choice Review

The fourth edition is a minor revision of the previous edition (CH, Mar'02). Major urban parks in 54 cities have been dropped (those that are state or national parks in cities remain) and indexes by location and by special features restored, but this edition is only two pages longer. Entrance and use fees have not been added. ^BSumming Up: Recommended. All collections. C. S. Dunham Fairfield University
