Reviews 1

School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 2-From "The Apple Blossom Fairies" to "The Zinnia Fairy," this collection based on the poems of Cicely Mary Barker includes a fairy song for each letter of the alphabet, with the exception of the letters "u" and "x." Featuring such traditional instruments as the mandola, Celtic harp, zither, and recorder, the gentle music, reminiscent of the Renaissance, perfectly captures the beauty of the life of the fairies. Beautifully sung by children and adults, the words of Barker's poems are expertly woven into the music. The liner notes contain the lyrics from each song and several of Barker's illustrations from her book of the same title. An excellent addition to collections for young children.-Veronica Schwartz.
