Library Journal Review

These two new books explain how amateur decorators can use flea-market finds to create a personal decorating style. The Butlers, Art of the Midwest design studio owners, show homes whose owners typify their design philosophy, which maintains that a refreshing mix of vintage and modern furniture and decorative accessories can be combined even by amateurs to create a uniquely personal decor. The numerous color photographs are captioned with advice on how to obtain one's own style. Paulin, editor of Romantic Home magazine and associate publisher of Victorian Home magazine, visits seven homes that exemplify a comfortable, welcoming decor. Numerous photographs show interiors with various takes on country style, from shabby chic to a formal English style. Captions give tips and design suggestions for creating each look. Both books are recommended for libraries where patrons are seeking new ideas for the "found style." (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
