Summary

Butch is bad and loves being naughty. Victor likes being good and always does what he's told. Now Victor wants to be bad too, but it isn't as easy as he thinks . . . especially for a polite dog like Victor. Hugely talented illustrator Helen Stephens has created a funny and charming story about two doggie friends who try to impress each other-with hilarious consequences.

School Library Journal Review

PreS-Victor, a small white dog, is content with his life and his owner, Miss Loopy. However, he can't help but admire his impish friend, Butch. The self-proclaimed naughty pup bites table legs and steals sausages. He even goes so far as to chastise Victor for being a dutiful dog and letting Miss Loopy tickle his tummy. In an attempt to show off and prove that he can also be disobedient, Victor runs into a shop with a sign that states, "NO DOGS ALLOWED." Immediately regretting his bad conduct, he apologizes, much to the other dog's disgust. It is only when Butch's owner addresses him as her "darling pup" and her "poochie-poo" while tickling his tummy that Victor realizes that his friend is mostly bark and little bite. Stephens's trademark bright, clear illustrations will appeal to preschoolers, who will also enjoy witnessing Butch get his comeuppance.-Maryann H. Owen, Racine Public Library, WI (c) Copyright 2010.
