School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 3-Funny Faces features an equal mixture of the familiar as well as the unfamiliar, such as the dodo and black-bellied bustard. The informative text is entertaining: "The ostrich looks like an eight-foot-tall bowling ball-with feathers." Large photographs of these birds against colorful pages of fuchsia, bright gold, green, and orange provide an up-close-and-personal view. In the second title, the Tooth Fairy and Wisdom Tooth offer facts about teeth, competing with one another about who knows more about the topic. In the end, the Tooth Fairy uses her magic wand to turn Wisdom Tooth into a toad. The entertaining text is illustrated with cartoon art and a colorful, detailed diagram of the outside and inside of a tooth. Both books are great fun for independent browsing, shared reading, and curriculum units.-Wanda Meyers-Hines, Ridgecrest Elementary School, Huntsville, AL (c) Copyright 2010.
