School Library Journal Review

Gr 3-6-Flying ears, a dog with dogpox, and Little Blue Riding Hood populate this silly and highly original collection. The nonsensical and mostly short poems tackle such topics as "Boomerang Bill and Boomerang Betty," who always end up where they started, and a suitcase with wings that flies to its destination. Almost every selection has an accompanying wacky drawing consisting of simple lines and distorted images. The one next to "A Strange Spectacle" shows a man with an eye above and below his nose; "Lucky Escape" is paired with images of flying fried eggs. The poems are not grouped by subject or organized into chapters, but there is an index of titles and first lines. Listeners and readers both will respond to the clever rhymes, unusual words and sounds, and humor of these verses.-Kristen Oravec, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Strongsville, OH (c) Copyright 2010.
