Publisher's Weekly Review

Lee (Zen Interiors; Kitchens; Bathrooms; etc.) returns once more to the kitchen in her latest offering. Divided into three parts, the first deals with 21 detailed case studies, showing by example, detailed well-captioned pictures, lucid text and architects floor plans the development of, and final arrival at, a variety of kitchens. These plans take into account the space available and the owner's aims and lifestyles, and are useful in helping readers decide the direction they want to take in their own renovation. The second part contains the most practical advice as Lee wends her way through the "Nuts and Bolts" of the components that make up the finished room. From flooring to cabinets, the options available are described, as are their merits and demerits. The final part, "The Personal Touch," discusses the extras- gadgets and utensils as well as decorative details that garnish the kitchen walls, window treatments and table linens. All these provide the finishing touches and are often overlooked at the concept stage. The book is rounded out by a small but useful suppliers section. Lee's combination of text and glossy well-captioned pictures, nicely photographed by Wood, is sure to inspire those considering the renovation of what is usually the most expensive room to undertake.
