Summary

Summary

Simply put, this is yet another Frank Sinatra compilation from his earliest years at Columbia, with and without Tommy Dorsey. The material showcases Ol' Blue Eyes as something of a teen idol rather than as the great jazz and standard stylist he would become. There are some nice moments, but this is the crooner rather than the song-interpreting giant we came to know and revere later. The sound in this set is decent if not overly warm or immediate, the price point is fine, and the notes are rudimentary. Simply put, if you are among the hardcore legions of Sinatra fans, you already have everything here. If you are a fan of the singer who fronted the Nelson Riddle bands at Capitol, or Sinatra at the Sands with Count Basie, or any of the other truly amazing bands he fronted, this will be underwhelming to say the least. ~ Thom Jurek
