Booklist Review

Reviewed with Jennifer Nault's Judy Blume0 . Gr. 2-4. Aimed at younger students with assignments, these profiles in the My Favorite Writer series offer basic biographical and career facts about significant writers for children, followed by spoiler-free introductions to their major works and boilerplate advice on writing a biography book report. Both titles downplay, or completely avoid, controversies: E. B. White's contretemps with Anne Carroll Moore over Stuart Little 0 is ascribed solely to literary differences, and Judy Blume's heroic battles with the censors are barely mentioned. That aside, the information, enhanced by color photos and shots of current book covers, is presented in systematic, readable, visually inviting ways, and will leave both confirmed and potential fans with insight into each author's gifts and enduring appeal. --John Peters Copyright 2004 Booklist
