Summary

Summary

This series of elementary-level books looks at different explorers and their early years. How were these voyages planned? Land and regions that were reached and explored are discussed, as well as any results of these explorations. These books contain a timeline, words to know, a further reading list with Internet addresses, and an index. Each book will be in chapter format, and use simple sentences. Each book will have color and black and white illustrations.Who sailed the ocean blue in 1492? Christopher Columbus did. For years, Columbus had wanted to explore and find a new route to the Indies. Finally, he was given the money he needed for his trip by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain. Columbus and his crew sailed off in the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria in search of new lands.

School Library Journal Review

Gr 3-5-Young explorers will find much to navigate in this easy-to-read biography. The text has good flow and will easily hold the attention of emerging or reluctant readers. Above-average illustrations offer a glimpse of the explorer, though no one really knows what he looked like, and interesting full-color drawings, reproductions, and maps depict the times. A solid selection for classroom or school libraries.-Barbara L. McMullin, Casita Center for Technology, Science & Math, Vista, CA (c) Copyright 2010.
