Library Journal Review

This is the first entry in a projected series on the knitting experience by noted knitwear designer and teacher Melville. It is a tribute to Melville's design capabilities that she has written an entire book (including 24 designs for everything from handbags to coats) on what you can do with the simple knit stitch. (Yes, knitters, the purl stitch has to wait for the second volume.) This book is like having a good friend at your side teaching you to hold the needles and getting you started with your first project. All the garments in the book are stylish and attractive, and Melville's expert instruction makes them all doable. Experienced knitters will find much to like here, including chapters on how to make successful garments and how to fix common mistakes in knitting. Enthusiastically recommended for all knitting collections. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
