School Library Journal Review

Gr 4-6-This concise biography is well organized, giving a simple overview of the progression of important events, including a useful boxed time line on each spread. The focus is on Elizabeth, but there are informative inserts about life in England at the time and what helped define the Elizabethan era, such as fashion and theater. The book is attractively designed with lots of beautifully reproduced paintings, sketches, and maps, which give it a rich and tempting look. This brief introduction to post-Renaissance England offers a glimpse at the life of a great monarch, and it is an effective, if cursory, treatment. Robert Green's Queen Elizabeth I (Watts, 1997), while not quite as visually appealing, offers more in-depth information.-Laura Reed, Pickering Public Library, Ontario, Canada (c) Copyright 2010.
