1850s edition : The booklet is bound in printed, illustrated orange paper with a black-and-gilt printed spine over boards, with the title, publisher, and location on the front cover. The front free endpaper is missing. The frontispiece recto bears the signature, "Mary L. Drew." Page 4 bears the manuscript note in pencil along the bottom, "Mrs. Bradford S. Field 10-2-40 Lot." Inserted inside the back cover is a hand-colored engraved gift card with the legend, "A chain of kindred taste/Has fastened mind to mind." Its reverse bears the pencilled gift note, "From E. W. Sears to L. E. Direr (?) For being a good girl" (last five words underlined).
